We offer single courses that can be taken on their own. Some of these courses count towards certificate programs we offer. You can also register for entire certificate programs, which will give you access to all the courses needed for the certificate.
Online courses can be taken when it’s convenient for you. You can complete them at your own pace, anywhere you have a computer, tablet, or smartphone, and an internet connection. You can also return to content you’ve already covered any time you need to review it.
Our courses are asynchronous, meaning you can register and start at any time.
No. You can access your course at any time of the day or night. However, there are scheduled maintenance times when your courses may be temporarily unavailable.
We invite you to join UNBC in this new (and effortless), online marketing initiative.

  1. We provide you with a professionally designed ad.
  2. You post the ad on your website.
  3. Any user that clicks through the ad on your website to ours and completes a course registration, would direct a commission to you (paid monthly).  Commission rates are 10% per sale with courses ranging from $400 to $6,000.
  4. Since your website is already developed, the only work required at your end is to post the ad we give you.

That’s it!  Contact us to get involved.

D2L or Desire2Learn Brightspace is a learning management system. A learning management system is a type of online platform for courses. D2L Brightspace hosts UNBC Continuing Studies’ online courses. UNBC’s academic courses are hosted on Blackboard, a different learning management system. A learning management system is simply a specifically built website for delivering course content.
General requirements for running D2L are as follows:

Email Address Internet Speed Sound
You will require an email address to create an account in D2L Internet access is required. High speed is recommended but not mandatory. Sound card with speakers or headphones. All courses contain some audio material.
Once you register and pay for your online course, you will receive an email containing a link to the UNBC D2L site. This is your course access. You can also access D2L at https://unbc.desire2learn.com/ but you will not be able to see any content until you have paid for the course in full.
To register for any of our online courses, visit http://online.unbc.ca. Here you will see our online course offerings, choose the Learn More button to go to the registration information. Click the course titles to go to the course information and access the Register For This Course button. This button will take you to a checkout page. From the checkout page, you can adjust the quantity, checkout and pay, or continue shopping to add more courses. Upon checkout, you will be asked to create an account if you haven’t previously done so.
No, our online courses do not require you to install any new software. You will need to ensure your Flash Player is up-to-date.
Our courses are optimized for Google Chrome (PC or Mac) latest version, Firefox (PC or Mac) latest version, Internet Explorer 11 (PC) and Safari (Mac) version 9 or later.
Once you log into D2L, you can access your courses from UNBC D2L’s My Home page. Here you will see a list of My Courses, which will show you the last courses you have accessed, up to a count of 10, as well as a dropdown menu, Select a Course, where you can access a course for the first time.

Once you are working in a course and want to access a different course, simply return to the My Home page to see these options.

When you register and pay for an online course, you will receive an email with a link to access the course(s). Simply click on that link to go to the UNBC D2L log in page. Here you will log in using the credentials you created when you registered for the course. After that initial log in, or for easier access, use this link: https://unbc.desire2learn.com. You can bookmark this link for future use.
Yes. You have access to any of your online courses for seven years from the registration date.
Please double check your junk / spam / clutter folders within your email to make sure the email is not within one of those folders. Please add cstudiesonline@unbc.ca to your address book so this doesn’t happen again.
Questions regarding the course content should be directed to cstudies@unbc.ca or call our toll-free support at 1-866-843-8061. These services are available Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm PST.
It depends on the course or certificate program. Check the syllabus for each course.
Assignments will be graded within 5 working days. You will receive your grade and any feedback through the UNBC D2L course site.
How much you learn from a course depends on several factors, including the amount of effort you put in as a learner. However, the content in our online courses is as in-depth as our classroom courses.
Some of our courses include assignments. Assignments must be completed with a passing grade before you take the final quiz for the course. There are no set deadlines for assignments.
Depending on the course, you may be required to use a textbook. Courses generally have built-in glossaries and resource pages that contain links related to the course material.
Yes, for the courses that have course assignments, these are mandatory to complete the course.
The final quiz can be accessed through the course page on UNBC D2L and are fully online.

There is no limit to the number of online courses that you can work on at one time. However, depending upon what type of learner you are, it may be better to focus on one course at a time and complete it before beginning the next one.

Our courses are set up for maximum flexibility for the learner and can be taken in any order.

However, if you are taking the OH&S Practitioner certificate program (10 courses), we recommend that you complete all of the courses before beginning Safety Program Design and Analysis as this course encompasses content from all other courses. Likewise, when taking the Environmental Monitoring certificate program (10 courses), we recommend beginning with Introduction to Environmental Monitoring and Introduction to Environmental Management before starting the other 8 courses.

No. We only have select offerings online at this time. Please feel free to suggest courses you would like to see online, as we are always developing more online offerings.
If you are unsuccessful in the final quiz of a course, you are able to have another attempt for a $50.00 administration fee. Please contact us right away, if you are unsuccessful and we can give you the details and link to pay for the administration fee and have the exam reset. If this happens, we encourage you to review all the course material, including any video materials and transcripts, to prepare for the re-write and not attempt the quiz a second time until you feel fully prepared.
If you are not successful on the first attempt at an assignment, we will send you an email alerting you to this and offering some feedback on what you would need to be successful.
In the situation where you are unable to pick up your certificate in person (instead of a digital certificate), a certificate mailing fee will be charged prior to mailing the certificate. Fees are as follows: Within BC – $20.00, North America – $30.00, International – $55.00. Please contact cstudies@unbc.ca for details.
To access your T2202A for online courses, click My Account. Once logged in, click Go To Order History button. On this page you will see T2202A dropdown menu. This will take you to the T2202A.
