OH&S Regulations & Theory
With the Occupational Health & Safety Practitioner Online Certificate (OH&S) you will have access to training geared towards creating and implementing a health and safety management system. As workplace safety continues to become a priority for companies, many organizations will seek out skilled workers with health and safety qualifications to do so.
When you enrol in the health and safety certificate, you will examine essential Canadian regulations and necessary background knowledge for implementing a health and safety plan at your workplace.
Modules 1 to 3 of the OH&S Online Certificate, for example, introduces students to specific theory, Canadian legislation, and required understanding of OHS regulations and standards.
Module 1 reviews:
- The path health & safety training has followed from its early workplace tragedies to Canada’s commitment to workplace compliance today
- What is occupational health and safety? Safety theory, systems and programs, and the role of the OH&S practitioner
- Identifying components of a safety program and OHS basic principles and occupational health and safety legislation
- Occupational Health & Safety in BC, Canada, and around the world
Module 2: Legislation – Acts and Regulations
In Module 2, you will learn about:
- Occupational health and safety legislation as it applies across Canada
- Acts and regulations, including but not limited to, the Workers Compensation Act and Bill C-45
- Responsibilities of employers, workers, agencies and government
- Health and safety standards, guidelines, codes, and acts
- Organizations such as WorkSafe BC, the BC Safety Authority, and others
Module 3 examines:
- Hazard analysis techniques such as Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and Job Demands Analysis (JDA)
- Definition of occupational health and safety hazards, hazard analysis, and risks
- Risk assessment and control: Who is responsible, which risk assessment models are effective, and how risk assessments are performed
- OHS regulation and WHMIS requirements for identification and control of hazards and risks
