Dan Bomford TSC, CSO
Dan’s colourful career as a diamond driller, heavy duty mechanic, and safety supervisor has taken him around the world to such places as South America, West Africa, and Papua New Guinea where he gained extensive experience working on large-scale industrial projects. It was while working on these high-risk projects that Dan came to see the importance of a safe workplace. He eventually found his way to a career in the occupational health and safety sector where he has been part of Northern Health’s Area Safety Advisor team, Workplace Health Safety and Prevention, since October 2012.
In his role at Northern Health, Dan brings his diverse industrial knowledge to workplace issues such as ergonomics, violence prevention, inspections, risk assessments, noise, PPE, and air quality. His understanding of the OH&S role in the field of institutional health care offers a fresh approach to UNBC’s online learning experience.
Dan’s interest in OH&S isn’t surprising considering that his father spent over two decades as an Officer with BC’s Worker’s Compensation Board (now WorksafeBC). Dan is a graduate of the University of Victoria’s Geography program with a major in Urban Planning. He is also a Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic and certified Construction Safety Officer (CSO).
